Stora Enso launches Multicopy's new product range
To improve the product range and to meet the requirements of today's customers, Stora Enso is introducing a new product, Multicopy Zero. Multicopy Zero is carbon-neutral, which means that Multicopy offsets the emissions generated from distribution. "This carbon-neutral paper brings a clear and credible testimony to the action that Multicopy has taken to address the issue of climate change. In 2017 we celebrate 40 years on the market by launching a new product range based on direct customer feedback and on the results of an extensive customer survey,” says Jonathan Bakewell, VP Office Paper Segment at Stora Enso Paper division.

callas software presents pdfaPilot 7 at CeBIT
callas software, a leading provider of automatic PDF processing and archiving solutions, will be present as part of the digital Premier League at this year’s CeBIT in Hanover from March 20-24, 2017. The focal point of the company’s appearance at the show, in the Digital Office Area managed by Bitkom (hall 3, stand B17), will be the first reveal of pdfaPilot 7. Other highlights will include updates to pdfToolbox and pdfChip, as well as the introduction of pdfaPilot as a web service: the Actino DPS solution by partner Actino Software.

Xerox and EFI partner to give customers best in class digital front ends
Xerox Corporation and Electronics For Imaging announced a strategic partnership to bring to market a next generation digital front end (DFE) to drive Xerox digital production presses. The agreement includes the sale of Xerox’s FreeFlow Print Server (FFPS) DFE business to EFI. Under the terms of the deal, EFI will continue to produce and support FFPS so current customers do not experience interruptions in sales or service.

Xaar expands its 3D business with new Xaar 3D centre and team

Cimpress agrees to acquire National Pen

Xerox names Steve Hoover Chief Technology Officer
Xerox has named Steve Hoover, as chief technology officer, effective Jan. 1, 2017. Hoover currently serves as chief executive officer of PARC, A Xerox Company. Hoover will be responsible for research and product development, reporting to Jeff Jacobson, CEO of Xerox following the company’s separation. In this role, Hoover will oversee the Xerox global research centres including the Palo Alto Research Center (PARC), the Xerox Research Centre Canada and the Xerox Research Centre Europe, as well as Xerox’s globally distributed product development and engineering capabilities.

New Managing Directors at Mitsubishi HiTec Paper
Effective January 1, 2017, Dr. Martin Schreer and Andreas Jastrzembowski will become the new Managing Directors of Mitsubishi HiTec Paper Europe GmbH. They succeed Gerhard Schoon, who is retiring at the end of 2016. 2016 European Direct Mail Market Report
Multi-industry experts from the print value chain met at the end of 2016 at Hewlett Packard’s Graphics Experience Centre in Barcelona to discuss the future of direct mail in Europe. The successful seminar and accompanying ‘2016 European Direct Mail Market Report’ (available to purchase and free of charge for members and participants) were coordinated by Intergraf, the European Federation for Print and Digital Communication, and FEPE, the European Envelope Manufacturers’ Association.

Messe Düsseldorf reconstructs southern section
Supervisory Board and the shareholders of Messe Düsseldorf GmbH have approved plans for the complete reconstruction of the South Entrance and, subsequently, Hall 1. Werner M. Dornscheidt, Chief Executive Officer of Messe Düsseldorf GmbH, is pleased: “We can now implement our Masterplan for the complete modernisation and renewal of the premises at our home base – and indeed, as always, without subsidies.” The investment volume of this southern section is EUR 140 million. In all, Messe Düsseldorf will invest around EUR 636 million until 2030. The work will start in May 2017, after interpack, and should be completed in summer 2019. The design has been created by the Düsseldorf-based architectural company slapa oberholz pszczulny architekten.

At the end of the year the world market leader for prepress software solutions OneVision announces its release of the 5.9 imposition software "PlugAUTOIMPOSEin". The new feature "template editor" makes the imposition of pdf files even easier. The high degree of automation involved in PlugAUTOIMPOSEin means that manual input is greatly reduced, common errors are avoided, and valuable time and money are saved.

New Ghent Workgroup PDF Output Suite 5.0 offers unique ICC-based test patches for output workflows with PDF/X-4
Ghent Workgroup (GWG) announces the release of Ghent PDF Output Suite 5.0 for testing and adjusting PDF output workflows with color management in order to be fully compliant with PDF/X-4. Ghent PDF Output Suite 5.0 helps determine whether workflows are behaving as expected, and identify errors in a fast and easy way. It is distributed as a series of PDF patches that can be applied by end users of graphic arts equipment as well as developers of applications handling PDF files. Each patch is numbered and contains tests for one specific property. The patches can be used individually but most patches can also be grouped together. Therefore the most important part of the Ghent PDF Output Suite 5.0 package is a six page PDF with an amalgamation of 48 patches ready to start testing immediately.

Successful realignment for Heidelberg reflected in strong incoming orders at drupa
As expected, the first quarter of financial year 2016/2017 (April 1, 2016 to June 30, 2016) at Heidelberger Druckmaschinen AG (Heidelberg) was shaped by the industry trade show drupa, which took place in late May/early June. Under its “Simply Smart” motto, Heidelberg took the industry’s digitization and thus the company’s strategic realignment to the next level. The new products and solutions resulted in a high demand for all the company’s offerings related to industrial print production and digitization. Accordingly, incoming orders rose to € 804 million as at June 30. Compared to the previous quarter, the order backlog, which is a measure of the Group’s future operational development, increased by 67 percent from € 460 million to € 768 million. This strong demand is a solid basis for achieving the targets for the year as a whole.
